Professor Mladen Juracic holds Ph.D. in geology (1987) at University of Zagreb. From 1976 to 1990 he worked in Center for
Marine Research, Rudjer Boskovic Institute in Zagreb. Since 1990 he works at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. His main
scientific interest is in marine geology, including sedimentation pattern on continental shelf, sedimentation in river mouths, surface
characteristics of mineral suspended and sedimented particles, the role of suspended particles in transport and fate of contaminants,
drowned karst phenomena, and marine geological cartography. Total of 85 scientific publications of which 22 published in WoS journals,
and more than 80 presentations on scientific congresses and symposia. Recently engaged also in science communication (co-director of
International science communication summer school Dubrovnik 2004, FP 6 project: ESCW: the European Science Communication Workshops 2005-08).
He was member of the International Geoscience Programme UNESCO/IUGS (IGCP) Scientific Board (2003-2007), and member of the Commission on
the limits of the continental shelf of the UN Convention of the Law of the Sea (1997-2007). Member of the International Association of Sedimentologists
(IAS), International Commission for the Scientific Exploration of the Mediterranean Sea (ICSEM), the Croatian Geological Society etc. He joined Ivo
Velic as Editor-in-Chief of Geologia Croatica in 2008.

Ivo Velic was born in Split in 1938. He obtained his B.Sc. (1962) and PhD (1975) at
the University of Zagreb. Since 1962 he has been employed by the Croatian Geological Survey (former Institute of Geology).
As a specialist in regional geology and biostratigraphy of Mesozoic carbonate deposits of
the Adriatic Carbonate Platform, he worked on the Basic Geological Map, scale 1:100000 and
Lithostratigraphic Map of the Republic of Croatia, scale 1:50000. He has also collaborated on
numerous scientific projects in biostratigraphy and regional geology, as well as applied
projects in petroleum exploration, the construction of hydroelectric dams, roads, tunnels, quarries,
etc. He was member of the Organizational Committees of 8 International scientific meetings held in
Croatia. He has published more than 150 scientific articles covering a range of diverse topics, and
is a member of the Croatian Geological Society (HGD), Societa Paleontologica
Italiana, European Palaeontological Association (EPA) and Paläontologische
Gesellschaft (Germany). In 2006 he received a prestigious annual Reward of the Croatian Academy
of Sciences and Arts for his lifetime contribution to the field of natural sciences. He became the current
Editor-in-Chief of Geologia Croatica in 1991.
